Buy one, get one free is a great deal if the product/brand is one you use.

TIP: Buy 1 instead of 2 and save 50% unless it is a high usage item.

Remember the store has to make up for the loss leader item somewhere else. You must avoid the temptation to overpay on 25 items for the 1 or 2 items you save on.

Saving $1.75 on peanut butter or $2.00 on crackers, and then overpaying by $4.00/lb on steaks and $2.00/lb on chicken breasts or a $1.00 more for butter or $3.00/lb too much for coffee leaves you in the hole. The store wins.
